With music and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim and book by Hugh Wheeler, A Little Night Music is a musical that focuses on the romantic lives of several couples. Inspired by an Ingmar Bergman film Smiles of a Summer Night, the title of the musical is derived from Mozart's Serenade No. 13 for strings in G major. It opened on Broadway in 1973 and has gone on to enjoy runs on the West End and has been performed by multiple opera companies. It had a revival on Broadway in 2009.
